It values transparency, but it is okay with centralization. It values security, but it defines security as legal accountability rather than private key control. It values liquidity, but it is comfortable with multiple layers of intermediaries. In many ways, this is the opposite of the original Bitcoin narrative.

I do not think this is a betrayal. I think it is an expansion. The original Bitcoin network remains open and permissionless. The people who want to self-custody can still do so. The people who want to run a full node can still do so. The ETF is simply a gateway for a population that was never going to run a node.
